This was a hoot! After dinner at Gorduño's Mexican
restaurant in Rio Rancho, N. Mex. the evening of Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005,
waiters and staff sang something resembling "Feliz Cumpleaños"
for Ed, then rechristened him "El Pancho Eduardo del Gente"
and crowned him with a new lid.
Notwithstanding
a few family members who feared El Ed would never stand for such public
embarassment, the majority braved it, ordered the staff to get on with
the show. He turned out to be an incredibly good sport, laughing as
heartily as everyone else...and that was before the Margueritas!
Youngest
son Jim Peeples (left) and nephew Alec, who've both been around and
seen a lot of crazy stuff, hardly knew what to make of this apparition
in lavender sombrero and Mr. Rogers sweater.
The
young señorita directly behind Señor
Gente simultaneously got the serenade and sombrero from the staff, although
our party was five times larger and way noisier than theirs.
The
deal also came with a dessert so rich and tasty he couldn't finish it.
Of course, having stuffed ourselves on comidas muy fabulosos,
we all felt muy gordo, pero muy excellente.
